Hello, and thank you for checking out Google Maps Debarred, a UserCSS script. It removes the lefthand bar displayed on desktop Google Maps.
Update: Google has introduced an option to hide the sidebar, but only if you're logged in. This script still works if you're incognito.
Download:
First, you'll need a CSS injector add-on. Stylus is recommended. It's available for Firefox or Chrome-based browsers.
Next, open this stylesheet. It should load into Stylus, where you can examine and install it.
Changelog:
- 1.2.0 ~ 2023-04-23 Fix: Now available in all countries (thanks /u/JochemvdMeulen) Fix Google watermark wasn't centered (non-firefix) Change: Menu button moved to a new spot.
- 1.1.2 ~ 2023-04-20 Change: Language of firefix label Change Dummy gradient height from 100% to 85px
- 1.1.1 ~ 2023-04-19 Change: Made the menu button an option.
- 1.1.0 ~ 2023-04-19 Added: New persistent menu button workaround ( Sorry, it is a bit wonky looking. I don't have the care to make it seamless yet.)
- 1.0.0 ~ 2023-04-18 New: Initial release
How to access settings:
To change the settings of any UserCSS script, click the Stylus icon on your toolbar. If you're on a site the script changes, it'll appear in the popup list. You can also see all of your scripts by clicking the manage button. Clicking a gear icon next to a UserCSS script allows you to change its settings.
Known bugs:
- Firefox empty bar remedy: When dragging Pegman to use Street View, it previews a location 72 pixels to the left (same as the bar's width).
Misscellaneous Notes:
Sometimes a UserCSS link loads as a regular CSS link (outside of Stylus). If this happens, select and copy the output. Next, open Stylus from the toolbar (manage). Check the box next to "write a new style" to write a UserCSS style. Don't worry — you won't have to do any typing. All you have to do is select everything inside the large box, then paste in what you've copied previously. Change the name in the name field to the name in the stylesheet (@name) if needed. Then you enable and save it.
